Re-elected General Secretary of Blantyre Synod of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP), Reverend Alex Maulana says he will not hold grudges against his critics during the campaign period.
In Monday’s elections, which were also part of the Synod’s 30th Biennial Assembly held at its Headquarters in Blantyre, Maulana won by 210 votes. His contenders, Reverends Paul Mawaya and Lazarus Kadango, got 100 and 34 votes respectively.
In the run up to the elections, Synod’s Prison Chaplain Reverend Stanley Chimesya reportedly accused Maulana of being supported by the governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
On the other hand, Maulana accused Chimesya of soliciting funds from the former governing Peoples Party-(PP) to support his opponents during the campaign.
But in his acceptance speech, Maulana said he was thankful to God for encouraging him to keep on moving despite the challenges, and that he holds no grudges against those who ‘insulted’ him.
“I tell you it has not been easy, I have been hit from all sides but I thank God for his unconditional love. I however, ask for your prayers, encouragement, constructive criticisms and love,” said Maulana.
The theme for the assembly, which ends tomorrow, is “Proclaiming good news of peace through Jesus Christ our Lord for all.”
